Toronto Rocks the Roughnecks

Tonight the Toronto Rock took on the Calgary Roughnecks at the ACC. Toronto had a great start to their season but after taking a couple of losses came into the game with a 5-4 record, they were two games back of the first place Georgia Swarm.

Much of their success is due to goaltender Nick Rose who almost has a goal a game better record than the next best goalie in the league. In fact, I don't think I've seen this before but he shut out Calgary in the first quarter of play tonight.

Tonight was extra special. Toronto Captain Colin Doyle retired at the end of last season and tonight the team retired his jersey. He is only the second Toronto Rock player to have this honour bestowed upon him. He was the ultimate complete player and team mate. During his time with the team, they won six championships. The honour is so well deserved!

As usual, Scotty Newlands did an excellent job with the national anthem.

Pregame rally.

The view from our seats.

Action.

The Toronto Rock Cheerleaders put on a couple of great shows but the lighting was poor for pictures.

Iggy was in fine form.

Oh, the game! It seemed never in doubt and was fun to watch. Toronto lead 3-0 at the end of the first quarter, 5-1 at the half. Again, I've never seen a team only allow a single goal in thirty minutes of play.

In the end, Toronto won 16-10. It was never close.

As usual, the Rock players saluted all 10,370 fans that were in attendance.

Next Friday on St Paddy's Day, the Rock take on the 6-5 Colorado Mammoth. It should be a great game and Teena and I will be there for sure.
