Taking Mom to the Barley Pub & Eatery

Mom's birthday was Friday.

As we are on vacation this week, Teena and I drove down to Eldorado today to take her and my stepdad, Keith, out for supper. Since it was Mom's birthday supper, she got to choose the place and to our delight it was a pub in Madoc, Barley Pub & Eatery.

The place felt good when we walked in. Once it was the local town fire hall and jail but has been made over well, with original exposed brick and a great closed in patio out back over looking the river.

I like a place that features local brews and this place has two on tap from Barley Days in Picton and one from Church-Key Brewery in Campbellford. As I had already tried the one from Church-Key, I had the Harvest Gold Pale Ale then the Wind and Sail Dark from Barley Days. Both were good not great.

There was a Tuesday feature on steak ($7.99) so my Mom, Keith and Teena all went that way. They enjoyed it and ate it all. Teena thought hers was overdone but good. I had the chicken panini sandwich with homemade beer batter onion rings. Both were great! The sandwich was good and filing and the onion rings were a different flavour and texture than I had ever had before.

After we finished supper, our waitress surprised my mom with a piece of cake and candle. When we came in, we said mom was the birthday girl but never asked for the special desert. The cook and server did this on their own which was very nice of them.

We all had a very good time and I think this place is what Madoc needs. The server was always there when we needed her and friendly. I would definitely go back.

Everyone had a good time, especially my mom whose birthday we were celebrating. Happy birthday. Mom!
