John and Jacob at First Canadian Place

Today at lunch I headed over to the waterfall in the park at First Canadian Place where John and Jacob were giving a free performance.

From CMT: John and Jacob, born and raised in Birmingham, AL found their roots in the sounds of back-porch pickers and harmonies of gospel singers. They’ve recently toured Europe with Kacey Musgraves, placed their song “Be My Girl” on the hit ABC TV show, “Nashville,” appeared at The Hangout Festival, Bonnaroo and the Firefly Festival, along with another brief European summer tour promoting their single, “Ride with Me.” The band will be poised for an explosive launch when their eponymous album drops October 6.

I loved their sound. It was funny as I was sitting there thinking how they had a very modern version sound of the Everly Brothers when they said many people had commented on the same thing, then did their own excellent version of Wake Up Little Suzie.

Jacob explained that they went on tour opening for The Band Perry and when they arrived back to the U.S. was asked to write a song with them. That resulted in Donewhich went to number one on the country charts. John and Jacob also have their own song, Be My Girl, which hit the charts and was played in the TV show Nashville.

Hanging from Jacob's mic stand is a trumpet which when you look at the curves on the front of the horn shows it has a history. Jacob was great with it.

They are playing at The Dakota tonight before returning home then heading for a tour of the U.K. I can't make it. I wish I could.

You might be able to tell but today I became a fan.

John and Jacob perform "Be My Girl" live on November 11, 2012, in Nashville, TN at Major Bob's..
