Back in Training

After my birthday in March, I decided that it was time for me to get back into shape. I haven't been to the gym in a couple of years after I injured my knee two years ago and last year badly sprained my ankle. It was time to get back at it!

I wanted to do this right as it is so easy to injure yourself by using the machines wrong, or using too much weight, so I set up an appointment with a trainer, Sarah at the West End YMCA. The "Y" have a program called mYfitness where you get four free sessions with a trainer. I met Sarah a couple of weeks ago for a fitness assessment, outlining my injuries and goals.

My goals? I lost 25 pounds last year. I want to lose another 20 by August. In August, I want to get back into fencing again and be in excellent shape for it!

Last week Sarah walked me though a bunch of the machines they have and set up a program for me, which takes around an hour to complete. She noted the machine settings and weight to use for each machine. The weights are a little light due to a body that's been beaten up over 60 years but those weight will increase as I become more and more fit.

Last week was crazy so I didn't make it back to the "Y" until this evening. Now I can set up a schedule for myself.

I'm sitting here tired but a good tired. A walk of a thousand miles begins with a single step and I took mine today.
