Borer's Falls and the Rock Chapel Trail

Today Teena and I drove to Hamilton to do a hike and see some waterfalls. Above is Teena standing by the creek that goes over the edge just behind her and is named Borer's Falls. There is not a great view of it but it is a 15 meter (49.2 ft) falls and is 5 meters (16.4 ft) wide.

Then we were off to explore the Rock Chapel Trail

The trail skirts the heights of the Niagara Escarpment and is part of the Bruce Trail which runs from Niagara Falls to Tobermory on Georgian Bay. There are some great views from up here.

This looks like a maple sugar shack. There was also a look-out hanging over the edge. Photo op!

Armstrong Trail was a side trail off the Rock Chapel Trail that took us down almost to the bottom of the valley floor. We had to take it. It started with steel stairs and then turned into a regular trail. It was a good walk down and back up again!

 

This was the old set of stairs for the trail. I like the metal ones better.

The trail is well-marked and maps are placed in strategic locations so you always know where you are. Bridges are placed to take hikers over hazardous creeks and dry beds.

The final leg of our hike took us through a grass field to the parking lot. There were lots of birds flying around. Teena shows how high the grass is.

Here is a red winged blackbird. I think Teena thought I made up the name.

It was a great hike, and a great day for it!
