Teena and I went to see The Rum Diary today.
"American journalist Paul Kemp takes on a freelance job in Puerto Rico for a local newspaper during the 1950s and struggles to find a balance between island culture and the expatriates who live there."
From what I saw in the previews, I was expecting a fun comedy. Instead it is a fairly serious movie with some humorous spots. The original story was written by journalist Hunter S. Thompson in the early 1960s but was not published until 1998. Some say is is a semi autobiography of the time he spent there.
I found the movie to be long and a little draggy. Also the plot seems to wander at times with no focus. It was an OK movie, one I would watch just once.
I give it a 5.5 out of 10.
