Movie Review - The Killer Elite

Ken and I saw The Killer Elite this afternoon.

Based on a true story, Killer Elite races across the globe from Australia to Paris, London and the Middle East in the action-packed account of an ex-special ops agent (Jason Statham) who is lured out of retirement to rescue his mentor (Robert De Niro). To make the rescue, he must complete a near-impossible mission of killing three tough-as-nails assassins with a cunning leader (Clive Owen).

Going in I did not know that this was based on a true story that supposedly took place over an 18 year period. The timeframe was condensed for this movie. I say "supposedly" as afterwards I found out there is a lot of controversy as to whether the book, The Feather Men, on which the movie is based, is indeed a true story, a work of fiction or somewhere in between.

All I can say is that is was a good movie. Statham and De Niro were great. Clive Owen, who is a favorite of mine, was excellent too but his very bad moustache just distracted me.

Although there is a lot of action and some good plot twists, the movie felt a little long, even though it clocks in at just an hour and forty five minutes.

I enjoyed the movie and and 6.5 out of 10. Ken gives it a 7 out of 10. It's a movie worth seeing on the big screen at the theater.
