Billy Elliot: The Musical

Tonight Teena, Sarah and I went to see Billy Elliot The Musical at the Canon Theater. I really was not looking forward to seeing this play but Teena bought the tickets and I went in with an open mind. After all, the play did open to great reviews.

The story follows Billy’s journey as he stumbles out of the boxing ring, into a ballet class and discovers his dream to dance. Full of life, laughter, award-winning choreography and an unforgettable score by Elton John, this uplifting show will stay with you forever.

It was OK. For a story about a boy who wants to be a ballet dancer, there sure was a lot of tap dancing. It was a good story, though, and held my interest. There are 4 kids that rotate each night playing the title role of Billy Elliot. Tonight we saw Cesar Corrales as Billy and he was excellent. He not only could act but could dance up a storm.

In the end I was glad I went and gave it a 6 out of 10.

Thanks for the ticket, Teena!
